Project Reveal: Lake Sunapee Family Retreat
A vacation home is a respite from the hustle of everyday life while also a gathering spot for as many guests as can pile in – a place to be alone, together. The #LakeSunapeeFamilyRetreat captured by Jim Westphelan and recently featured in New England Home Magazine delivers on that promise and then some! It is one of those projects that was years in the making and a true team effort on every level. This home has seeped into our designer bones and the photos are a beautiful celebration of this special place.
Having worked with the homeowners before, our team, in collaboration with architecture firm Charles R. Myers & Partners, was able to dive into this renovation with a deep understanding of their style preferences and how they intended to use the spaces. The home is steeped in history and was built at the beginning of the 20th century as a hunting and fishing lodge for Henry Bowles, a US Congressman from Massachusetts, and his wife Edna, a true entertainer.
It was important to us to honor the historic elements while seamlessly introducing more modern elements to create a balanced aesthetic. Our design decisions were inspired by the homes old bones and picturesque surroundings. We were not afraid to go bold in places and mixed colors, patterns, and textures for a layered look that exudes both comfort and the family’s personal style. This house is intended for entertaining family and friends so while no piece is too precious for relaxed living, we didn’t skip out on the luxury.
From the more modern bunk room to the lodge-like family room, wrap around porch, boathouse and beyond, this lakeside retreat is ready for friends and family to descend and start making memories. Adirondack chairs + sunset + wine = perfection.
We are still flying high from this one! What a dream come true to see everything come together. A special thank you to Jim Westphalen for capturing this so beautifully!
