Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire :: Modern Camp Reinvented
Kate, Elizabeth, and Thiara,
It’s our last weekend of the summer and I am overwhelmed with gratitude.
Thanks to you, the house felt warm, cozy and just like home as soon as we arrived. Every room is inviting and comfortable with beautiful views of the water. We have lived in the TV room with out the TV on!!! Yay! The windows are lower in there and the views spectacular. With the windows all open it feels like the most comfortable screen porch ever! The game table got a lot of use...cousins assembled legos, played board games and adults played many hands of cards. The swivel chairs are fantastically comfy and the view out of the French doors makes it another wonderful spot to sit.
The main room and it’s two facing sofas saw late night conversation, fires on cool evenings, and as I had hoped...Mike playing lots of guitar on the little horse hair stools. The beautifully detailed and down filled pillows everywhere added to the incredibly comfortable feel of each spot. Plenty of seating!!
The dining table is perfection!
The bedrooms...where do I begin?! My aunt’s comment the first morning she came downstairs, “The sheets, pillows, everything about that luxurious bedroom made me I feel like I was spending the night at a boutique hotel I couldn’t afford.” Haha!!! She’s right! The bedding is so comfortable!!! The design of each room is so interesting, unique, and inviting! And that bunk room!!! We hosted my 23 year old son’s 2nd grade teacher and her two small children for the day. (They were vacationing in Vermont, visiting grandparents.) I mentioned...maybe bring overnight things incase you’d like to stay. As soon as the kids saw the bunk room they begged her to stay! The room had many guests this summer: friends’ children, our children’s friends, and at one point it was the dreamed of “cousin bunk room” when 4 cousins were sharing it!
Thank you for caring so much for this project! Thank you for using your passion, creativity and organizational skills to help people. The house came together beautifully and helped so many people relax, unwind, enjoy each other, and make great memories!
My heartfelt thanks to each of you
I have NEVER received an email like this in my 15 year career. Clients have thanked me for our work in many many different ways over the years but describing how their family used and enjoyed each of the spaces we designed is certainly a first.
I designed this house on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire in 2007. It was my first published piece so it holds a special place in my heart. When my clients told me they were selling and building a new home on the lake it was bittersweet. When they told me the new owners were interested in hiring us to reinvent the house for their family, my heart skipped a beat.
These two projects are the perfect example of how the same home with the same architecture in the same location can be designed COMPLETELY differently for two different families. I’m so proud of how different they are. Both lovely in their own way .
Someday I’ll photograph this gem and do a side by side if my clients are open to that. In the meantime I’m just going to re-read this email over and over when I need a gentle reminder that what I do really does make a difference to the way people gather.
