Balancing our Roles with Intention

Balancing our Roles with Intention

Summer is a glorious time of year with no schedules, no rules and no bedtimes. We’ve had long weekends on the Cape and in Montauk and at Mimi & Gugsie’s. Tons and tons and tons of family adventures and fun in the sun. My laundry bins are filled with swimsuits and t-shirts and hardly any socks (hallelujah!). As we say goodbye to one season here in lovely New England, we buy a few new backpacks and buckle up for Fall.

September is just like January in my mind. Time to hit the reset button, take a deep breath and dive right back into life. I tell myself things will “slow down soon” but guess what? The joke is on me! Life is moving at the speed of light and if we don’t stop for five seconds to appreciate the chaos then we’re going to miss it.

I’m a Mom. I’m a wife. I’m a boss. I’m a friend. I’m a daughter (and a daughter-in-law). I’m a sister (and a sister-in-law). I’m a granddaughter. I’m a designer. My list of roles probably goes on and my to-do list is growing by the minute. How on freaking earth are we suppose to be all these things to all these people all at the same time? When you figure that one out I’m all ears. In the meantime, this month I’ve decided I am NOT going to be all of these things to all of these people. This month I’m going to max myself out at being two of these things at a time. Just two. I figure I have two hands so I’m going to hold one role in each hand (at one time) and see how that works for me.

So welcome to September my friends. We are going to imagine we are the scale. We’re going to do our best to remember that we are the ones that get to decide how the scale is weighted. We are going to hold our roles in each hand while we tackle our tasks with intention. We’re going to breath. We’re going to smile. We’re going to embrace the chaos. {I’m laughing because I’m totally talking to myself here too. This blog is all about accountability for yours truly.} Be the scale people. …and when things get out of wack then the scale might need a glass of wine to right the ship again.
